Step 2: Tune In To Your Teen's Call
After checking in with your own emotions, you’re back in the cockpit.
Now, it’s time to shift focus to your child. Instead of reacting to what they’re doing on the surface, ask yourself:
“What might be underneath this behavior?”
Is it fear? Shame? A need for control? Past hurt showing up in the present?
This step is about decoding the why behind their actions—so that in Step 3, you can choose a response that connects, rather than escalates.
