Project Body Neutrality is designed to help youth improve their moods and appreciate what their bodies do for them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this intervention designed for?
Project Body Neutrality is designed for teenagers (ages 13-17) experiencing low mood and body image concerns.

How does this intervention help?
Project Body Neutrality teaches teenagers to address negative thoughts about their bodies by focusing less on how their bodies look and more on appreciating what their bodies do for them.

What have we learned about this intervention so far?
Seventy-five teenagers completed Project Body Neutrality in a non-randomized pilot study. Overall, those who completed the SSI reported immediate increases in functionality appreciation (appreciation for what one's body can do) as well as decreases in hopelessness and body dissatisfaction.

Where can I try out this intervention?
We will be launching a randomized controlled trial (RCT) of Project Body Neutrality with long-term follow-up in the fall of 2023 to continue studying it, before sharing it widely.
